Do you want to help make everyday life better and easier for the people of Örebro? As an Environmental and Health Inspector, you will become a valuable part of our engaged team, where we work together for a sustainable and safe environment for everyone living and working in Örebro.

About the Position

The Environmental Protection Unit is organized into three teams with focus areas on water, soil, and industry. There is now an opportunity to join our soil team and industry team. The soil team's main mission is the supervision of contaminated areas, often linked to the municipality's many development projects. We also work with self-initiated supervision and are responsible for the supervision of quarries and nature reserves.

The industry team works with supervision within manufacturing industry, workshops, waste facilities, painting, and incineration plants. The role involves working strategically and long-term with complex operations.

We also see a need for competence in urban planning. At the Environmental Department, there is a group working with environmental issues in the municipality's planning processes, and this group now needs reinforcement. For those with education or experience in the field of urban development, there is an opportunity to combine supervision work within the industry team with a clear focus on detailed planning. You will serve as the Environmental Department's representative in the planning process, environmental assessments, and ensure that the requirements of the Environmental Code are integrated early in the planning process. Your competence in urban planning will be an important support for both the industry team and the administration as a whole.

As an environmental inspector, you will be an important part of the team. You will handle cases, plan, and carry out supervision according to the Environmental Code, and collaborate closely with your colleagues to provide high service and quality to operators and citizens. The role offers great freedom to plan your own workday and suits you if you have previously worked as, for example, an environmental engineer, environmental consultant, or environmental inspector and wish to contribute to real societal benefit. Your tasks will develop in line with your own competence. Through fieldwork, advisory services, and supervision, you will work with the Environmental Code as a tool, where legal security, good treatment, and collaboration are central. With us, you will get great responsibility, opportunities for specialization, and flexible, independent work. With competent colleagues and a digital way of working, there are good opportunities for learning and development.

Examples of tasks:

  • plan and carry out inspections and supervision work
  • independently handle cases, review investigations, and follow-up within your specialty area
  • collaborate with internal and external units and actors
  • write reports and formulate decision documents

About the Workplace

At the Environmental and Urban Planning Administration, Environmental Department in Örebro, we are about 60 engaged employees working on behalf of the Building and Environment Committee. We work to create good conditions for our citizens and companies within the municipality. Our focus is that our supervision should have a good effect and the best possible environmental benefit. For a few years now, we have worked entirely digitally in one of Örebro's most modern offices, Citypassagen. Since Citypassagen is located right next to the transport center, it enables good commuting possibilities and modern digital infrastructure.

Qualifications

As a public official with main responsibility for exercising authority, high demands are placed on both your working methods and your personal abilities. The role requires you to collaborate without ego, contact colleagues, and contribute to a culture where everyone develops together and the team is strengthened.

An important part of the assignment is to be confident in your professional role and deliver a careful, quality-assured, and transparent work. You need to be able to take responsibility for your own planning, drive your work forward, and actively seek the knowledge you need to succeed. Communication is central.
